I made this painting for a friend who wanted a memory of her childhood in Corsica. Yes, there is snow in Corsica. I did not know that! Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean Sea where the summers are warm and winters are very snowy with crispy blue skies, due to the mountainous landscape.
I used a postcard as the basis for my work, but I did not have enough information to give myself a sense of the atmosphere, so I went on a little google investigation to find pictures of Corsica.
I discovered there are many churches like the one in this picture built on the top of a rocky peak. With the snow, the church looks isolated while in fact, it is surrounded by the village nestled below on the flanks of the mountain. What a magical place!
